Introduction

Dizengoff Nigeria, a leader in communication solutions, successfully partnered with the Embassy of Italy in Abuja, Nigeria, to transform their outdated analog communication system into a state-of-the-art digital platform. This initiative not only enhanced the Embassy's communication capabilities but also fortified their security infrastructure amidst rising security concerns in the region.

Project Overview

Start Date: 5 th July 2023.

End Date: 26 th October 2024.

The Embassy of Italy sought a comprehensive overhaul of their communication
system to meet modern standards and address escalating security threats. Dizengoff
Nigeria approached the Embassy with a proposal to upgrade their existing analog
system to a digital one, ensuring enhanced coverage and encrypted communication.

Project Scope

The project involved:

  1. Transitioning from an analog to a digital communication system.
  2. Extending two-way radio communication coverage from the Embassy to Abuja International Airport, approximately 21km away, with full encryption.
  3. Supplying and installing a Motorola TRBOnet System for advanced communication features.

Challenges and Solutions

Challenges

  • The Embassy’s existing communication system was outdated, consisting of:
    • An MTR2000 repeater
    • GP340 model portable radios
    • A GM360 base radio with no output volume due to faulty connections
  • The obsolete equipment hindered seamless communication, posing a risk given the heightened security threats in Abuja.

Solutions

To address these challenges, Dizengoff Nigeria conducted a thorough technical survey to understand the Embassy’s specific needs. The following solutions were implemented:

  • Equipment Replacement:
    • The MTR2000 repeater was replaced with the SLR5500 Repeater.
    • GP340 portable radios were upgraded to Digital R7 radios.
    • The GM360 base radio was replaced with a DM4401 model.
  • Installation of Motorola TRBOnet System:
    • Enabled features such as Voice Dispatch, Voice Recording, Event Logging, Text Messaging, AVL Tracking, and more.

Project Outcomes

The successful implementation of the project resulted in the following:

  • Installation of 1 SLR 5500 Repeater, 4 DM4401 Mobile radios, 1 DM4401 base radio, and 20 R7 portable radios.
  • Deployment of the Motorola Mototrbo Capacity Plus solution, eliminating communication blind spots and meeting the Embassy’s expectations.
  • Establishment of seamless, fully encrypted two-way radio communication from the Embassy to Abuja International Airport.
  • Completion of a User Acceptance Test (UAT) and subsequent approval by the Embassy.
  • Comprehensive training for Embassy personnel to ensure proficient operation and maintenance of the new system.
